Inter Pipeline Fund

Inter Pipeline Fund

Inter Pipeline Fund needed a basic intranet with a specific component built in. Within this intranet they wanted to:

  • be able to update content easily
  • share important information and files across the entire company
  • electronically manage a process previously done on paper

OUR SOLUTION

Setting up an intranet is a potentially large and complex project, so the first thing we do when dealing with one is offer a primer to educate and help in the planning process. This allowed the customer to understand and appreciate the complexities and design trade-offs. From there, we worked with Inter Pipeline Fund to determine what features were considered business requirements (“must haves”) and what would be the “nice to haves”, based on budgets and timelines.

We like to use phased process to get our larger projects done. A large project is taken and divided into different smaller projects, which enables us to deliver what is needed, on budget and on time. It also allowed us in this instance to create a Phase Two document, which had anything considered "nice to have" placed on it and submitted for future reference. The specific component that needed to be built into the intranet was called ‘Management of Change’, or MOC. This process was used to document anything that happened on a pipeline, as well as what was done to correct the problem, and who was involved. It had traditionally been done on paper, but it was no longer practical in terms of keeping track of everything, nor was it efficient, so an electronic system was developed from scratch and built into the company’s intranet.

THEIR RESULTS

With their new intranet, Inter Pipeline Fund was capable of keeping centralized documents organized and accessible and updating information quickly and easily. Along with their new electronic MOC, many of Inter Pipeline Fund’s organizational problems were eliminated. And with the conversion of the MOC application to an electronic system, completed and archived records increased by 1000%.
